Zaterdag 7 mei zal de Move Up veranderen in een zompig moeras. De bands Diggeth, Of Stone and Fire en Renegade&Retrospect uit Engeland spelen die avond de hardste rock ’n roll, stoner en bluesrock die je oren aankunnen.

Bio Diggeth:
The three members of this band are all originally from a specific eastern part in the Netherlands, “as east as you can go” as some people refer to it. This part of the country called: “The corner” is known for its agriculture and simple way of living. It was in this setting that these musicians came to know rock-’n-roll, blues, hardrock and heavy metal and picked up there instruments at young age.
After playing in many bands and releasing albums they found each other and started to play an explosive mix of rock, metal and blues. To some people not the obvious combination but for DIGGETH a way of life: Influenced by Metallica, AC/DC, Johnny Cash, Lynyrd Skyryrd and Down they started to conquer The Low Countries, they shared the stage with the likes of Michael Schenker, Exodus, Sacred Reich, Slayer, Megadeth, The Texas Hippie Coalition and Peter Pan Speedrock.
Over the years they played a great number of shows in support of their critical acclaimed debut single ‘One more Yesterday’ (2005) and their fulllength album ‘21st Century Nomad’(2009)
For their latest offering, the album ‘Kings of the underworld’ the band decided to raise the bar once again: They created their own state-of-the-art recording environment (Studio Casagrande) and worked on the songs for a longer period of time. Their goal was to combine the rawness of the live performance with a subtle seventies groove and feel in terms of performance and sound.
The result is an album that has a ‘life’ feel but also a profound deepness to it. The use of vocal harmonies, intricate rhythms, acoustic guitars, percussion and organ in some sections adds to the richness of the songs.

Ik oefende sinds een paar weken met mijn band Shaking Godspeed in een oud fabriekspand op een Arnhems industrieterrein. Een plek waar meerdere bands aan hun repertoire schaven. Op een avond, toen ik de bandbus aan het uitladen was, hoorde ik een stuk bruut goeie muziek vanaf de bovenetage naar beneden blazen. Ik wist niet welke band het was, maar het klonk alsof Black Sabbath kermiswalsjes aan het spelen was.
Ik plofte met mijn krakerige lijf neer in een oude sofa die in de hal stond en luisterde nog even aandachtig verder. Mijn grijns verbreedde zich met de minuut door wat ik daar aan creativiteit in mijn oorschelpjes gegoten kreeg. Af en toe leek de band ietwat mank te lopen, maar alras was de conclusie dat ik gewoon op het verkeerde been was gezet. De gitarist nam gewoon een ‘loopje’ met me. Ja, ze speelden het ene moment alsof ze de huisband waren van John Cleese’s ministry of silly walks en het volgende ogenblik was er weer meer focus op de zware onderkant van hun muziek, met referenties naar Led Zeppelin en wat sonische vleugjes QOTSA. Al die lijntjes, krom of niet, vormden tezamen een klankentapijt dat (naar mijn mening) zo snel mogelijk de wijde wereld dient in te worden gerold. Ik wilde de band die avond niet storen en vroeg aan een andere net gearriveerde muzikant, die ik overigens ook niet kende, of hij wist wie daar boven aan het repeteren was. ‘Oh, dat is Of Stone and Fire’. Aha, dát was dus de eerste keer dat ik van de band hoorde. Nou, van mij hadden ze de elementen ‘Earth’ en ‘Water’ ook wel aan hun bandnaam mogen toevoegen (al dan krijg je wel een érg lange bandnaam), maar dit is voor mij muziek die alle windrichtingen opwaait!
Een maandje later speelden we samen in Willemeen te Arnhem en zag ik de band voor de eerste maal dus live bezig en toen vielen me weer andere dingen op. Zoals bijvoorbeeld de ontzettend grappige én muzikale baslijntjes, gespeeld door een intens genietend, alles om zich heen vergetend, basbeestje. De band was strak en spannend en de drummer zat als een echte potten en pannenprins achter zijn kit. Ik houd ontzettend van bands die niet perse het wiel opnieuw hoeven uit te vinden, maar die zich wel als doel hebben gesteld zichzelf en hun publiek te verbazen en daardoor op plekken te komen die ze zelf ook nog nooit muzikaal hadden bezocht. Dát doet Of Stone and Fire! En ondanks het feit dat ze al goed zijn, merk je aan alles dat ze alleen nog maar beter zullen worden.
