DESCRIPTION:
Flow Acrobatics Drawing inspiration from martial arts and yoga, the warm up of this workshop has the purpose of tuning dancers into a clear and subtle state of body and mind before they expand into their practice and execution of movement phrases. Challenging postures alongside movement flow with circular motions and spirals will be introduced in order to provide better awareness, while strengthening the body – especially the wrists and legs. The warm up is followed by a series of movement patterns which help us to explore the mechanics of the spine. With the introduction of dynamics such as balancing, stabilizing, falling, rolling, flipping and melting down, we will work towards maintaining flow without holding unnecessary tension. The patterns will increase in complexity and then be linked together into longer sequences with acrobatic elements. The main part of the seminar consists of high energy movement phrases based on Kenan’s choreographic work, which is influenced by various backgrounds such as Capoeira, Judo, Release-Technic and Breakdance. Improvisational tasks, carried out either alone or with partners, will be present during the whole workshop in order for us to explore the movement material from different viewpoints.
