HIGH TONE
Het Franse High Tone hebben we vanavond een band op het podium staan die de afgelopen zomers bijzonder veel indruk maakten op diverse festival. High Tone draait al een tijdje mee in de dub-scene. Vanaf 1997, het jaar van oprichting, werden EP’s uitgebracht tot 2000, toen de band de handtekening zette bij het Jarring Effects-label. Toen kwamen de volwaardige albums uit en reikte de bekendheid van de band tot over de hele wereld. Het geluid van High Tone komt tot stand door het combineren van 70’s dub met drum’n bass, ambient, trance en wereldmuziek.
Following the release of their 11th studio album : “Ekphrön”, High Tone intensely toured France, and are currently in the middle of the “High Tone meets Oddateee” run, illustrating their latest EP “Ghost Track”. Next autumn will finaly be the time for them to take back to the European roads to present their new live show and latest releases !

Essential players on the European underground scene, High Tone has progressively created its own unique musical identity, fueled by the concept of a rave-like, punk and independent spirit, and around the very concept of Dub music in its vast complexity.
Initially labeled « ethno-dub », High Tone was never afraid to explore and dissect the adventurous soundscapes of bass music and beyond. Lovers of indie music from the 60s to now, High Tone always knew how to approach a various musical field as technological key elements of these decades: 70s wash guitar, 80s synthesizer, turntablisms and samplers from the 90s and computer music from the second millennium.
Trend setter in bringing dub music to a live audience, High Tone keeps on touring extensively from Canada to China, from Poland to England. The band evolves through each new release and collaboration: with Kaly Live Dub, Improvisators Dub, Zenzile, Wang Lei from China, and more recently with Brain Damage, for an extraordinary groundbreaking album that proves the continuing musical relevance of High Tone through the years, maintaining its core techno sound, a signature touch since the start. The « High Tone sound » is fluid yet constant, innovative, experimental, but always with a strong psychedelic and hypnotic flavor.
ASIATIC ROOTS
Gordon (AKA DOC) is voor vele reggae liefhebbers een bekend gezicht in de dub cultuur. Met zijn Soundsystem heeft hij vele sessies verzorgd onder de naam Xoveryouth Family en staat bekend om zijn eigen typerende sound.
Rakesh (AKA Kopstuk) heeft eigenlijk ook geen introductie nodig. Met zijn label Deep Sense Records en vele releases als Kopstuk & Soulscum heeft Rakesh redelijk de lat geraakt in de elektronische scene .
Hun muzikale achtergrond in de reggae is bij beide op zeer jonge leeftijd bijgebracht door hun vaders die door de jaren 70 & 80 grote vinyl collectie bezitters waren. Beide hebben deze 2 heren een Surinaams Hindustaanse achtergrond en vertegenwoordigen zij de Roots Reggae & Dub met een “message”
Ook runnen DOC en Rakesh het succesvolle DUB concept “Dub Nation” , een maandelijks terugkerend evenement met Brigant als thuisbasis.
