The singer-songwriter Anna Sóley and jazz guitarist/composer Mikael Máni have played all kinds of music together in different ensembles, but they dedicate this set to Icelandic music. Anna Sóley is a vocalist and songwriter from Iceland. She works within the singer-songwriter tradition and mixes folk music and contemporary jazz with impressionistic lyrics, spoken word poetry, and improvisation. Anna studied jazz vocals and literature in Iceland and the Netherlands and currently teaches Music History and Lyric Writing at the ArtEZ Conservatorium in Arnhem. Modern Age Ophelia, her debut album, explores the line between reality and fiction, the peculiar power of superstition and everyday reality in a dreamlike atmosphere through introspection and conversations with fascinating characters from literature and life.
Mikael Máni is a jazz guitarist and composer from Iceland. He is an instrumentalist who loves lyrics and jazz and combines the composer’s intellectuality with the honesty of a singer-songwriter. Mikael graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Conservatorium van Amsterdam with Jesse Van Ruller as his supervisor in 2018. Since then, he has released three solo albums (Bobby, Nostalgia Machine, and Innermost) and appeared on and produced many others. All About Jazz magazine described Mikael’s meticulous style as kindred to Jim Hall in tone and inflection, with traces of Lage Lund and other contemporaries who have chosen more spacious and minimalist approaches to their style.

Het programma is een mix van originele composities en zorgvuldig uitgekozen juweeltjes uit het IJslandse liedboek, met teksten in het Ijslands en Engels. Anna Sóley is een zangeres en songwriter uit IJsland.
